Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation
Issues Policy document):
I have never received a more aggressive or sustained barrage of unsolicited
contact than when my WHOIS information was public. Since roughly 2006 I
have used a WHOIS privacy service to keep my information private, for no
other reason than I have no interest in a massive amount of unsolicited
calls, emails, and mail. The address listed in my 2005 WHOIS is STILL
receiving mail and phone calls, ten years later.
I deserve the right to run a website without being forced into giving up my
privacy, or delivered on a silver platter to multitudes of marketers and
scammers.
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
Thank you,
Chris Ostertag
