Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues
Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
I run a very small arts organization, and I use my home address for the
website. While I have probably nothing to fear from having my address printed,
I don't like knowing that complete strangers know where I live. For others who
have a website exposing someone of fraud or other illegal activity, you take
away all protections from them by allowing anybody to get their personal
information. I believe that when it comes to personal information it is better
to have too much protection than not enough.
Private information should be kept private. Thank you.
Rebecca Soler
