Dear ICANN –
I am concerned about proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS
privacy services (P/P).
I strongly urge you to respect all domain registrant's rights to privacy and
due process.
Everyone deserves the right to privacy. That includes: political, religious,
ethnic and racial groups, gender minorities and publications engaged in
freedom of expression.
The fundraising and membership drives of such groups could be construed as
commercial activities and subject them to exclusion from privacy under the
proposed rules.
Another group affected by the proposed rules are owners of home based
businesses.
These owners have a clear need for privacy protection and shielding from
spammers, hackers, stalkers and harrassers both for themselves and their
families.
No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless
of whether the request comes from a private individual, legal person (i.e., a
corporate copyright holder) or law enforcement agency.
The private information of domain registrants should be kept private.
Thank you.
