In light of your working group's recent document discussing imposing a new
set of rules and policies, I would expect ICANN to be a little more removed
from the influence of big money and big government, and a bit more in tune
with the culture of privacy and freedom allowed by the internet. Using the
straw men of drugs and terrorism is typically the first step towards losing
a bit more freedom and privacy, and the consideration of disallowing
commercial websites to use proxies to shield personal information is
patently overstepping any reasonable boundaries.
In addition, why would ICANN think that forbidding domain registrars from
informing registants of law enforcement requests for personal information
is OK, especially in situations where such notification is legal?
Please reconsider the direction ICANN appears to be heading.
Sincerely,
Alan
