Dear ICANN Board Officials:
I am Paul Carney of Ishtot, Inc., located in Centreville, Virginia, USA. Ishtot
is the company that manages Capango™, a private email network focusing on safe
and spam-free email communications for families and businesses. As the owner of
many .com, .org and .net domains, I would like to comment on the upcoming
selection of a subsequent .net Registry Operator.
It is my sincere hope that ICANN will bear in mind the importance of selecting
an operator that can maintain the stability and reliability of the .net domain.
As threats to the security of the Internet become more common, it is imperative
that the chosen operator be one that can withstand these threats and be able to
incorporate security so as to mitigate future attacks. There is an overwhelming
need for continued public and business confidence in the underlying .net
infrastructure as the Internet continues to develop, and with this need comes a
crucial decision to avoid any unnecessary technical risks by moving .net to a
smaller operator who may not be able to provision for denial of service or
other attacks.
Sincerely,
Paul Carney
President
