The subject of inequal treatment of languages with cases should be considered.
Like most Balto-Slavic languages (as well as Tamil, Icelandic, Greek and to an
extent German), Serbian has cases.
This puts these languages at a disadvantage and drastically reduces their
ability to generate revenue compared to languages such as English, while
bearing an equal cost for obtaining and maintaining TLDs.
Here is a comparison of some possible attractive second-level domains for
.London (English) and .Beograd (Serbian):
Case
Function
English
Serbian
Nominative
Subject of sentence
.london
.beograd
Genitive
Possesive
.of.london
.od.beograda
Dative
Object to whom action is performed
.to.london
.ka.beogradu
Accusative
Object of action
.over.london
.nad.beogradom
Vocative
Addressing, calling
.beautiful.london
.lepi.beograde
Instrumental
Means by which action is done
.with.london
.sa.beogradom
Locative
Place
.from.london
.iz.beograda
In order to achieve the same flexibility in creating second-level domains, and
receive the same commercial benefit, languages with cases need to have four to
16 TLDs compared to one for languages that do not have cases.
I would like to propose that an application for Nominative should automatically
grant all other cases and that all should be active.
