Subject: [gnso-contactinfo-pdp-wg] Translation and transliteration study
published

Dear TNT PDP Working Group,

I would like to bring to your attention to a recent published report
evaluating solutions for the submission and display of internationalized
Contact Data. Specifically the study addresses the following areas:

* The accuracy implications for transforming internationalized contact
data. The study explored tools for (i) transliterating internationalized
contact information to ASCII, (ii) translating internationalized contact
information to English, (iii) transcribing internationalized contact
information to ASCII, or (iv) a combination of these techniques.
* Current Practices for handling internationalized contact data. The
study report describes the practices of:
a. Electronic merchants and online service providers in other industries,
who often accommodate submission or display of their content in multiple
languages. The study examines how their websites handle internationalized
contact information.
b. Domain name registries and registrars, who currently operate in
geographies where local languages require use of character sets beyond ASCII in
Latin or non-Latin writing systems. The study surveyed the submission and
display practices of internationalized registration contact information for
such registries and registrars.
* Limitations of technical protocols to handle internationalized
contact data. The study looked at what constraints current relevant protocols
may also place on submission, storage, transmission and display of such data by
registries and registrars.

The study and its public comment is available here:
https://www.icann.org/public-comments/transform-dnrd-2014-06-03-en

We hope this would be useful for the TNT working group as you deliberate in
this area. We are also happy to provide a briefing to you in London.

Kind regards,
Steve

Dear all,

I apologize for yet another doodle-related email. However, we have had only
three responses and so, we decided to extend the poll until Tuesday 30 July
14.00 UTC. If you have not filled in the poll, please take a moment to do so
until then. Here is the link: http://doodle.com/tntpuxqutmmrannq

Please note that even if you can't make it in the first week - use the poll to
indicate at which time you would be available in the forthcoming weeks!

Many thanks and have a great weekend.
Best wishes,
Lars

Dear all,

We have had only two replies to the Doodle poll so far
(http://doodle.com/tntpuxqutmmrannq). As your participation in the poll would
be greatly appreciated, please consider this a gentle(isn) reminder to do so.

Many thanks and very best wishes,
Lars
