One of my concerns with local exemptions for registrars is that they
will cut both ways. This draft is especially interesting because it
proposes sweeping exemptions to existing privacy legislation.
GERMAN GOVT CONSIDERING BILL TO EXPAND TELCO SURVEILLANCE
According to a German ministerial draft bill for a Telemedia
Act drawn up by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor
online sales platforms and other telemedia companies will in
future be allowed to monitor their customers more intensely.
According to §15 of the draft bill providers of
telecommunications and media services are to be allowed "for
prosecution purposes" to collect, store, modify and/or pass
on to third parties personal data of users.
