Dear All,
In preparation for our next call coming Monday 6 July at 14.00 UTC, please
review the wiki pages created on the different abuses discussed (see
https://st.icann.org/reg-abuse-wg/index.cgi?registration_abuse_policies_working_group).
Please note that some suggestions have been provided for the definition of
cybersquatting by Fred Felman (see
https://st.icann.org/reg-abuse-wg/index.cgi?cybersquatting).
As there was some discussion regarding the scope of this working group, I
thought it would be helpful to provide you with the relevant section of the
charter addressing this question:
Scope and definition of registration abuse - the Working Group should define
domain name registration abuse, as distinct from abuse arising solely from use
of a domain name while it is registered. The Working Group should also identify
which aspects of the subject of registration abuse are within ICANN's mission
to address and which are within the set of topics on which ICANN may establish
policies that are binding on gTLD registry operators and ICANN-accredited
registrars. This task should include an illustrative categorization of known
abuses.
As mentioned by the Council liaison, if the Working Group feels this
description is unnecessarily restricting its activities and discussion, the
group has the option to go back to the Council and propose alternative language.
With best regards,
Marika
