Support for Noncommercial Stakeholder Group
ICANN should honor and uphold the charter for a Noncommercial Stakeholder Group (NCSG) that was drafted by civil society. This was developed in a consensus process and submitted by NCUC in March. This document has been and supported by more than 80 noncommercial organizations and individuals. ICANN should immediately drop its attempt to impose is staff-drafted plan. That plan would imposed the "silo" charter model and would effectively strangle civil society and render it ineffective in policy development. The world is watching and expecting ICANN to live up to its promises of bottom-up processes, accountability, and democracy.
