hi all,

here's the current state of my Status-Update draft for the Council.  it's got a 
hole in it where Jeff and Richard's summaries can go (second to last page).  
i'm not planning to spend very much time on the first few slides, but i want 
them in there so that people have some high-level documentation of where we've 
been and and where we are.
