Do Not Lift Price Controls on Registry Services
The proposal to lift price controls on .org, info and .biz domain names is flawed and will do irreparable damage to the fabric of the Internet if ICANN approves this foolish proposed contract. Large companies with the ability to pay will be fleeced by greedy registrars, whose role it should be to financially democratize the Internet. Small business and personal website owners who create successful sites will not be able to afford to renew their domain names after the 10 year protection period ends - destroying their investments of time and money. Should ICANN approve this contract, it runs a very real risk of fragmenting the Internet. TLD DNS is only under the purview of ICANN so long as the users of the Internet feel it is in their interest to allow it. If the system runs afoul of those it is supposed to serve, prepare to see fair alternatives arise. Sincerely, - Dave Hendricks |
