Hello Colleagues,
Good day, and thanks for the open call to nominations for the BEjing ICANN
Meeting Alain, I feel since my involvement within NPOC I have worked hard
to see NPOC role within ICANN to be well understood within stake holders
that I have come across within Africa and globally. ICANN too have
supported this process am doing within my NPOC constituency , by the CEO of
ICANN personally making sure that the new Vice President for Africa for
ICANN Pierre Dandijnou attended the Africa Coast to Europe Sub Marine
Cable launch and forum in the Gambia, this December 2012 that involved 23
countries, this to me was a manifestation of ICANN ready to engage in the
true sense of the word in Africa.
I belief as a lead resource person within IGF in my the Gambia and one of
the key resource person for the West African Internet Governance Forum (
www.waigf.org) attending the Beijing meeting of ICANN as my first official
ICANN meeting will give me better understanding of ICANN overall mechanism
in its global role in IGF issues and the various key players involved as
this will definitely add impetus to support my work within NPOC in our
membership drive for Africa, this will enable me to report better and
explain in detail better to other countries within the West African IGF
during our Regional IGF in July 2013 about the role of ICANN within the IGF
process.
Already am happy to note based on the last IGF in Azerbaijan and the WCIT
in Dubai , the USA IGF that is well supported by the FCC have added the
Gambia as one of the countries they will support within the IGF process in
Africa this year.
I also look forward to be able during the meeting if selected by NPOC as
one of its nominees to attend the Bejing meeting to engage key governmental
stake holders at the ICANN GAC sessions so that they will identify key
stake holders within civil society in their countries to work with and join
NPOC especially from the African GAC members, I have already started
informal discussions with the Kenya delegation during the WCIT in Dubai
last December 2012 and this was very fruitful indeed
I look forward to hearing from NPOC on the final selection process as NPOC
plans ahead for the Bejing meeting.
Kind Regards
Poncelet
