Hi Adam,
Last time we quickly spoke was at a finance meting in Prague. At that time,
it was not ensured NPOC would make it past it's inception. A lot of water
has gone under the bridge since. The most important outcome for me has been
the spirit of collaboration that has finally settled inside NCSG, through
the efforts and goodwill of a number of NCUC and NPOC members who have
tackled the legacy issues positively and found solutions. Robin and Bill
will have their own views, but I am pretty sure their evaluation on this
situation are not too different to mine.
So, your email to Klaus is timely. I do not wish NPOC to run before it can
walk... So any expression of interest for open positions via NomCom will be
well thought off, planned and coordinated if possible This is not to say
that we intent on restricting any individual initiatives - NPOC members
will do what they wish - but we will be keenly aware of the shortage of
NPOC volunteers needed to deliver NPOC's program and outreach. We do not
want an ICANN win to be an NPOC lost, we need win-win. when our numbers
will reach a critical level, this will not be an issue anymore.
Yes, I strongly encouraged Marie-laure Lemineur, our Chair, Program
Committee, to apply for ATRT2. She is the lady whose name you were looking
for. She is originally from France but has been living in Costa Rica for a
long time, so that is why you may not have spotted her in the various
lists. She is a lawyer by training, an accomplished ICT4D specialist and a
published expert on Child on line Protection. I recruited Marie-laure into
NCSG/NPOC at the San José meeting and she is now a key NPOC team member,
after a very fast learning curve she is still committed to.
Yes, I and others at NPOC would like to engage with you on a discussion so
that you are aware of the challenges of growing NPOC properly and to
benefit from your experience in determining what is realistic this year in
encouraging 1or maybe 2 NPOC candidatures to NomCom positions.
Let me know how you want to proceed,
Best regards, Alain
