Common sense should lead everyone to support this
agreement. VeriSign has fought with ICANN since the
beginning. This court battle has not been good for
VeriSign, ICANN or the Internet community at large.
Trial lawyers seem to be the only ones smiling, as
VeriSign and ICANN's dispute has waged on. Funds have
been drawn away from ICANN, holding up new services
for domain name ownership and registration. Both
sides have been stymied. Many in the high tech
community have simply sat back and watched in silence.

This agreement poses the best possible solution to
this point. Each side gave in a little for the better
good of the entire tech industry - that?s the
definition of a fair agreement. Some sides,
especially the stalemated attorneys, seemed to prosper
most when ICANN and VeriSign were fighting. The basic
message here is obvious - consumers have never
benefited from litigation in the high technology
sector, as it slows down advances and ultimately
drives up costs for consumers. Any innovation is
better than litigation.
