Ämne: General comments on the proposed sTLDs

I refer to the Evaluation Methodology and Selection Criteria, set up by ICANN
for the selection of the new sTLDs:

* The proposed sTLD should address the needs and interests of a clearly
defined community, which can benefit from establishment of a TLD operating
under a policy formulation environment in which the community would
participate.

* The proposed sTLD should create a new and clearly differentiated space,
and satisfy needs that cannot reasonable be met through the existing TLDs.

* New sTLDs have a responsibility to create policies and practices that
minimize abusive registration activities and other activities that affect the
legal rights of others.

However, it seems that several of the now proposed new sTLDs does not
satisfactory live up to these very stringent criteria. In some cases, like
.asia, it could even be questioned if this is really a sponsored TLD (as
defined by ICANN).

The proposals like .mobi, .post and .tel are far broader than what I had
excepted for an sTLD, whereas .travel, .cat and .jobs

seems to meet the requirements better.

In general, several proposals are not specifically tailored to a focused group
of potential end users. As the Internet Community certainly does not need a
number of new ".com's", I hope that ICANN will firmly reject those applications
that does not meet the abovementioned requirements of an sTLD.

 Regards,

Petter Rindforth
