The value of WhoIs registry data to victims of domain fraud

For companies like ours (which, for more than four months, has battled domain name forgery by spammers who run questionably legitimate pharmaceutical and software sites), the information in WhoIs databases and InterNIC registries has been invaluable. The information has enabled us to determine the names of and contact information for the relevant registrars and site hosts, making it possible to enlist their aid in terminating the fraudulent activity.

Without that information, our brand and reputation will be completely at the mercy (or lack of it) of individuals who tarnish other companies to engage in illegal activities.

Please ensure that WhoIs data remains available so that individuals who engage in domain forgery and fraud will not be outside the reach of affected organizations.

Sincerely,

Peter Altschuler
