Opposition to .xxx and ICM proposal

As an industry professional who has been associated with numerous adult
companies, as well as having worked in other fields such as education where
one could be expected to be concerned about these issues, I wish to register
my STRONG OPPOSITION to .xxx and the ICM proposals.

. There is no need for this. The online adult community already has
numerous entities through which responsible behavior is actively and
energetically promoted.

. The proposals represent nothing less than a well-financed
power-grab by ICM, one that in which ICM sees themselves as "taking over"
regulation of the industry, and gaining large amounts of unearned revenue
from adult online companies in the process.

. The vast majority of adult online companies who have
pre-registered are actually opposed to .xxx. They have been forced by ICM to
pre-register in order to protect their domains.

. ICM has not provided anything close to the needed information
required for public comment, nor have they functioned with necessary
transparency. If .xxx is approved, the entire online adult industry will be
forced to let themselves, their practices and policies, and their marketing
be regulated by an entity that has not disclosed the standards that will be
applied, the people who will be determining those standards.

. The .xxx domain will do nothing to protect children from access to
sexual material online. It may lead to completely unacceptable, unworkable,
unnecessary, and thinly veiled attempts at censorship.

In my opinion, several existing entities - including industry groups such as
XBiz.net, organizations such as the Free Speech Coalition, The Association
of Sites Against Child Pornography, and others - provide more than adequate,
and much more effective and measures - to establish and promote standards of
responsible behavior by adult online businesses. Moreover, the adult online
industry is already far more responsible and committed to good practices
than the self-serving ICM application would suggest.

No good will come from the ICM .xxx plan. On the other hand, responsible
companies will be forced to pay drastic increases in domain registration
fees and fees to ICM.

I URGE that the ICM application for .xxx be REJECTED.
