ICANN is supposed top be "coordinating technical functions"; it seems to me inviting
proposals for new tld registries can have the potential effect of running roughshod
over all the work that has gone on in the last four or five years by people and organizations
that have deployed testbed gTLD registries. If ICANN is really serious about coordinating
technical functions wouldn't it make more sense to clear up the backlog of gTLD applications
that go all the way back to the original TLD requests made of Jon Postel and THEN
talk about soliciting proposals from other interested parties?
These might be good starting points: http://www.newdom.com/iana-request.html ftp://dns.vrx.net/pub/db.root
