When .COM, .NET & .ORG were setup they seemed sufficient because there were so few actual web sites and at first they did fit into the commercial, organization and internet service provider groups.  Now they are totally inadequate for organizing what is now a curmudgeon of so many different sites that even .COM is insufficient for commercial sites because there are so many different kinds.  I think that we should organize the TLD with more descriptive options like .SEX for pornographic and sexually descriptive or visual sites.  People complain that it is hard to protect their children from pornographic material and it is because they can hide behind a non-descriptive domain name like whitehouse.com.  If that site had to have a .SEX designation then it would be simple to weed out these sites.  Along this same line medical sites could have .MED, stores .STO, and so on to make site more easily identifiable.  This would mean a total overhaul of the current TLDs but it would mean much less confusion in the future.  I think of it as a filing system that would allow users to identify the type of site before they go to that site.  It would not only keep pornography sites at bay but it would group like sites kind of like a phone book and make it easier to find what you are looking for.  This system would have many different TLDs (30+) that will also make for much less trademark battles because Oreo.pro (product sites) and Oreo.fan  (fan sites) will have no chance of being mistaken for one another.  This will also make it more likely that people will get the domain they need and not what is left. It will make sure that dodge.car (vehicle manufacturers) and dodge.clo (clothing manufacturer) can both their domains without any worries of trademark battles.  The current system may not be able to handle such a high number of TLDs but it would be well worth it to upgrade the system to allow for such a useful system.
