Poor solution to a non-existent problem |

The argument that adding other TLDs will protect trademarks and open registration
is specious at best. There is nothing to stop companies from snapping up every conceivable
iteration of their name - and who benefits from that? The registrars, of course.
And what of those companies who have no desire to be pigeonholed into selecting .travel,
for instance, when they realize, as most of us do, that many people presume .com
automatically? Why force the consumer to shoulder the burden of an overwhelming search?
And who exactly gets to determine which domains are permissible to register with
a particular TLD? With the availability of longer domain names (and the doors that
opens) and the ever present problem of squatters homing in on what they presume will
eventually be valuable, the proposals thus far are unimpressive.
