The reasons you pointed out are exactly why we need a regulating body that makes sure that: 1. Sites get the correct TLD 2. Sites don't get more than one TLD 3. Squatters and domain auctions are shut down The past has shown that self governing and registrars has left the current TLDs totally useless for identification and organization. Self governing never works because it just leaves the honest people out in the cold and the registars just want to do what is good for them, not for you.
