A lot of concern was expressed in a lot of messages in this forum (it took me two
hours to read them all) about new TLDs, who should be allowed to register first,
what if two (or more) companies have the same name but different fields of activity.Proposal
#1 : Allow registration only in the 2nd level domain, not directly in the TLD. This
way we can have, for example, company.clothes.shop and also company.computers.shop
. We can strip the 'www' part - modern browsers assume the HTTP protocol by default.
The 2nd level domain may be created on request and operated by the main registrar
or it can be leased or sold to another registrar, eventually later - if it grows
too much. Having more parts in the name makes it more readable than aLongOrMistypedNameThatHoldsAll.com
Proposal
#2 : To avoid guessing domain names and simplify searching we can store categorized
descriptions in the DNS database (possible in multiple languages) and have small
and fast search engines to locate the desired sites. Kind of search-oriented whois.
Each owner will enter the description and keywords at registration time and may change
them later. The amount of data to be indexed will be several magnitudes smaller than
spiders that index Web pages (still required to search for content on those pages).
This is feasable with the current technology without breaking compatibility and it
can be used for existing domains too.
