The world is standardizing on .COM. Browsers make it
easy to just type in the SLD for a .COM. Soon you'll be able to insert spaces if
you prefer to separate words. For example, entering "Best Deal on Washers" would
translate to BestDealOnWashers.com. Instead of giving webmasters more choices
after the DOT, let them to choose something unique before the DOT.
If webmasters
really wanted their domains to have .WEB or .SHOP in the URL, then Web.com and Shop.com
would be selling name server domains by now.
But the truth is, Apple Records would
much rather be known as AppleRecords.com than as Apple.Records. The first name flows
and is easier to recall. The second is interrupted by punctuation. And users assume
a .COM more often than not. You think it's a little weird to have a .ORG now. If
more TLDs were added, it will reduce the market share of .ORG even more, making it
more weird.
The public doesn't really want new TLDs.
