Why has it taken this long to issue new gTLDs.
The reasons thus far offered by ICANN are not acceptable. This makes it more
difficult to provide reasonable input to them. However, I will give it by best
shot.1. There are already gTLDs operating. These come in the form
of Country Codes. It will Not affect the stability of the Internet to add new
gTLDs. This has already been proven now.
2. There is no reason to drag
out the process beyond July 2000. I have not seen a logical argument as to
why it should go beyond July 2000 and until I do, I stand on the premise that the
Announcement of the names of the new gTLDs should be provided by ICANN in July 2000.
3.
I am skeptical of any Organization which has changed it's body as much as has happened
with the now named ICANN in such a short period of time. However, I will give
them the benefit of the doubt this last time. The reason I say this, is I do
believe there are many others who feel as I do now. This is why Action on new
gTLDs must be decisive and swift. The Integrity of the Internet has already
proven it can easily integrate new gTLDs--i.e. the integration of .cc without problems.
4.
6-10 new gTLDs would seem reasonable.
5. A .reg or .tm should be introduced
for the trade mark holders. This is a Much more Reasonable and Appropriate
solution versus the proposed sunrise period.
The above could be implemented by
the end of July 2000 without delay and accomplished in a viable atmosphere.
I know it can. I am around too many Computer Specialists who are Internet Savvy
to not know this with Conviction.
