.net officially stands for "Company Network," not "Internet."

No redundancy exists... Unless you interpret the misconception of a portion of our society as artificially forming a redundancy.

But insofar as official designations are concerned: no TLD yet exists to encapsulate the concept of the "Internet" or the "World Wide Web."
