I agree. Under an open TLD universe scenario, one can see how .REG
would
have substantial appeal and value. Unfortunately, ICANN is (apparently)
a consensus building organization which means the end result of their work will be
a very watered down solution that attempts futilely to cater to all interests.
To
digress, I have never been a fan of extensive consensus building. Just like in the
world of business, a company led by a sharp and decisive CE0/PRESIDENT who acts quickly
and reasonably is nearly always better off than a company run by a slow moving and
experienced executive committee. Little ol' me could have made the decision
1 year ago to roll out new 6-10 TLD's and the Net world would have been the better
for it.
There is not a lot of value that a zillion minds focusing on this
problem can add because there are certain core, inexorable dynamics that cannot be
ignored.
