>"How many camera or food stores might you have in your city I think the argument is fair to say more than three yet we have a whole world out there and we have basically three gTLD's to service the world(I don't count ccTLD's only because they are country specific)" Your argument is weak and fails to convince.  Fact is, every camera store in my town goes by its own name.  Yes, they are all camera stores but they all have different names, unless they are franchised. As for ccTLDs, their country specificity does not preclude their global indexical nature.  Keeping it simple works when giving orders, not when considering something as delicately complex and multi-faceted as the Internet.
