In theory you are right, maybe. In real life things do work differently. If one knows
a company's name, it is usually easy to guess where to look: name.com. I know,
this does not always work, e.g. Diamond, the graphics cards (etc) company, is under
diamondMM.com. Still one has only to remember the name, not the extension. This is
much easier, as MM is an acronym for what Diamond sells: MultiMedia. I for one can
remember this perfectly, while I would have more trouble to recollect where to find
them if they might be under diamond.biz, diamond.comp, diamond.firm or diamond.reg,
or, if things get really bad, 20 other TLDs.A small number of new gTLDs, if it
has to be, well, alright then. A large number (larger than 3 or 4) will kill the
system, in practice, which is what life is.
