ICANN - THIS MATTER MUST BE ADDRESSED, AND DECISIVELY! |

The UDRP must be re-examined. Personally, I think
the very idea of sanctioning that a dispute can arise over a generic SLD is a dangerous
proposition on the whole. It is an undermining of the Free Internet and fair
capitalist market practices. Please ICANN, put a stop to the insidious MONOPOLISTIC
trend and its resulting spate of WIPO sponsored excesses. "Power corrupts and
absolute power corrupts absolutely." Time to reign in the wild horses before
irreperable damage is done to the fields... The buying and selling of generic
SLDs has become an accepted business practice on the Internet. Let the companies
who want a generic SLD name bad enough PAY for it, and may the highest bidder win.
Why should this be the case in every other sector of the economy and not the Internet.
Picasso only painted so many pictures... but if you want one bad enough you can have
one- provided you've got the money to PAY for it. The examples of BUSINESS.COM,
ALTAVISTA.COM, BEAUTY.CC and many others besides must be pointed out and respected.
Allowing for escape to a pseudo-legal UDRP has become a transparent gambit and must
be curtailed (OTHERWISE THE FAR-REACHING LEGAL IMPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE SIMPLE OR
CHEAP). Granted, it was a good run for WIPO while it lasted... time to put the collar
on though. THANK YOU.
