To ignore the logic of Jon's three points here would seem to me to be evidence that there are non-rational reasons (politics, fear, etc.) governing the self-nomination process.  Common sense (if there is such a thing) and the strong support for changes in these three areas voiced by many respondents on many threads indicate that the self-nomination procedures should be adjusted accordingly.
