That's the way it is CURRENTLY with .com, .net, and .org!
And that's why we have CHOICE! I can register a domain for $10 with OpenSRS or I
can register a domain with register.com for $35. Because there is open competition
there will be various prices! As long as you have a system open to ALL ICANN accredited
registrars (like with Afilias), there will be competition, which will result in some
companies offering domains at lower prices. Unlike the IOD application, where you
will have to pay $35/year until IOD finally allows other ICANN accredited registrars
to register .web domains.
