As a niche retailer I can tell you this whole .com,.net,.org maze on the net has
been a nightmare for me as far as marketing and brandability costs go. My sites
get plenty of "hits", mostly from content seekers, not shoppers. I revise the
sites constantly trying to provide more extensive and updated content relative to
my products, in addition to the content provided by my merchandisers, and I keep
up with the technology and try to keep the sites attractive, debugged, and easy to
use. My marketing and advertising budget has quadrupled over the past year,
with little improvement showing in my sales figures. Meanwhile, my brick and
mortar establishments are doing great, with much less aggressive effort. I believe
that the release of the .shop TLD would help me a great deal, at the very least,
help to direct the "shoppers" to my sites. Arlene Artale
