As a lay person in the field of trademarking, it seems to me that a major problem exists between those trademarks that are afforded protection simply by being a unique textual expression (cocacola)versus those that infer a unique commercial application of the mark (coke). It would seem natural to me that those unique textual expressions might utilize a trademark specific TLD, such as .TM, but those that infer a specific utility of the mark, in my mind anyhow, don't deserve special treatment with domain naming. Moreover, I see no reason to allow any trademark holder the right to "squat" on multiple TLDs-particularly the generic variety. It artificially broadens the scope of a large number of existing trademarks. Maybe a trademark attorney watching this board could help clarify.
