.dubai is a proposed gTLD not a ccTLD.

With regards to the comment made by ccTLD .ae:

________________________________________________________________
"The ccTLD of .ae would like to express its concern and ovservation on the proposed newTLD .dubai. .ae is the two letter code of the United Arab Emirates ( UAE). "

and further:

“Hence; the establishement of .dubai would be likely rise to confusion ( Likelihood of confusion ), misleading, and infringenet to .ae right of use of .dubai and conflict to its business ( service and goods). “

This submitted comment, made by Etisalat representative and the holder of the ccTLD .ae. (Etisalat is the local tele- monopoly within UAE).

Unfortunate, the application made by DTEC & MFZA, Dubai Technology, Electronic Commerce and Media Free Zone Authority, has not been posted nor listed in the way the application has been made. The .dubai proposal, as it can been seen and understood by the description in the application, was and is meant to be a specific gTLD suitable for business, especially at Dubai Internet City and business, enterprises who would like to have a gTLD approach, rather than a ccTLD.

It is not possible to consider .dubai without considering .go. The same principals that underlie .go also apply to .dubai.

.go is a truly new gTLD which add great value to the whole Internet Society and especially the economy of the Federation - UAE.

The applicant of .dubai are not at all trying to infringing on the ccTLD .ae and there is no, what so ever confusions, misleading nor infringements in-between this “words” and there is a big different between a gTLD and a ccTLD.

There is no other authority nor sovereignty who understand this better then HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defense Minister, who by his great initiative and vision of creating DTEC & MFZA, Dubai Technology, Electronic Commerce and Media Free Zone Authority, known as Dubai Internet City, truly lifts the Federation to global recognition.

The proposed gTLD is to be seen from the perspective of an vertical trading community, whereby a gTLD would add and contribute with substantial values to the whole Federal Society of UAE as well as serve as an enabler for the region and bring UAE and Dubai to become a connectivity hub and a home for the cyber world.

The comment made by the ISP and Tele-monopoly, seams more to have been made with the interest of protecting and conserve the monopoly and extend it to the global Internet Society.

By having made this personal reflection, I urge ICANN to continue their hard work of open up and bring out stability and reward initiatives, who both are bringing large innovative values and new quality thinking into the Internet Society as well are willing to undertake and build up a regional operation in a global network of individual who can been seen as a new generation gTLD as well as a new chapter in the history of Internet.

I salute the work end efforts ICANN and its board and all the involved individuals are doing, we hope in the future that also Dubai Internet City and our planned authority DiDRA ( http://www.didra.org/) will be able to contribute with a lot.

Thanks
