Patricio Poblete es director de NIC Chile, el registro de
nombres de dominio para .CL. Fue miembro del AdCom de los
ccTLDs y miembro del Names Council dela DNSO. Ha estado
involucrado en ICANN desde las reuniones previas a su
creación (IFWP), participando en muchas de sus reuniones.

Junto a sus colegas del Departamento de Ciencias de la
Computación de la Universidad de Chile, fue uno de los
pioneros en la incorporación de su país a las redes
internacionales de computadores, iniciando la operación
del .CL en 1987.

Es Profesor Titular de Ciencias de la Computación en la 
Universidad de Chile, en donde se desempeña como Director
de la Escuela de Ingeniería y Ciencias. Ha sido en dos
oportunidades director del Departamento de Ciencias de la
Computación. Es miembro fundador y fue presidente de la
Sociedad Chilena de Ciencia de la Computación.
Es miembro de ISOC y de ACM.

Posee un título de Ingeniero Matemático (Universidad de
Chile, 1976), Master of Mathematics in Computer Science
(University of Waterloo, 1977) y Ph.D. in Computer
Science (University of Waterloo, 1982). Es autor de
numerosas publicaciones en revistas científicas.

Patricio Poblete is director of NIC Chile, teh domain name
registry for .CL.  He was a member of the ccTLD AdCom and
member of the Names Council of the DNSO.  He has been
involved in ICANN affairs since before it was created
(IFWP), participating in many of its meetings.

Together with his colleagues of the Department of
Computer Science of the University of Chile, he was one
of the pioneers in the incorporation of his country to
international computer networks, starting the operation
of .CL in 1987.

He is Full Professor of Computer Science at the University
of Chile, where he is Director of the School of Engineering
and Science. He has been twice Chair of the Department of
Computer Science. He is a founding member and was president
of the Chilean Computer Science Society. He is a member
of ISOC and ACM.

He holds a title of Mathematical Engineer (University
of Chile, 1976), and degrees of Master of Mathematics
in Computer Science (University of Waterloo, 1977)
and Ph.D. in Computer Science (University of Waterloo,
1982). He is the author of numerous publications in
scientific journals.

Los ccTLDs de América Latina han estado entre los que
en forma más masiva se han incorporado a la ccNSO. Esto
refleja la voluntad de los ccTLDs de la región de hacer
uso de los mecanismos que hemos construido para abordar
aquellos temas que requieran de una coordinación global. El
proceso de construcción de la ccNSO ha sido demasiado
largo, hemos esperado demasiado tiempo, ahora debemos
empezar a trabajar para que a través de la ccNSO podamos
hacer oir nuestra voz en el foro de ICANN, y para mejorar
la colaboración entre ccTLDs que nos permita a todos hacer
mejor nuestra tarea de servicio a la comunidad.

The ccTLDs of Latin America have been among those that
have incorporated in larger numbers in the ccNSO. This
reflects their will to make use of the mechanisms that
we have built to address those issues that require global
coordination. The process of building the ccNSO has taken
too long, we have waited too much, we must now begin to
work so that through the ccNSO we can make our voice heard
in the ICANN forum, and to strengthen the collaboration
among ccTLDs, that would enable us to better serve the
needs of our communities.
