Dear ICANN –

Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues
Policy document):

I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.

- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.

- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.

This in particular has effects for any public figure on the internet. A thing
called "swatting" - malicious users calling the police under the false pretense
of an attack or other crime, claiming to be a different person, in the
expectation of initiating a police raid against the target.

This is not a theoretical idea - this has actually happened in numerous cases:

A quick YouTube search:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=streamer+being+swatted

There are a lot of similar problems, all connected to shady users and hackers
gaining access to large amounts of private data. This includes, but is not
limited to:

- Password resets via challenge responses

- Cyber mobbing

- Harassment and Vandalism

And crimes far superior to this.

This has driven streamers and other people of public interest into hiding all
private data off public access. Whois protection is ESSENTIAL for these people,
in order to protect their privacy, security, and family. Too much damage can be
done by the simple fact that anyone anywhere can access ALL your private data.

Sadly, not every user on the Internet is trustworthy. Therefore private
information should be kept private. Thank you.

Best regards,

CBenni
