Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation
Issues Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
- People already receive enough harassment, and game streamers and other
minor public figures are already SWATted, and this proposal would make it
worse.
- Many small businesses are run out of private homes, and people should not
have to expose their address to the world unless they want to.
Private information should be kept private, there is no compelling reason
to remove this protection, and plenty of reasons to oppose it. The system
we have in place works, I don't care if MarkMonitor thinks obtaining a
subpoena takes too long. Thank you.
