To whom it may concern,
I would urge ICANN to reject this and future petitions for Internet censorship
by Ralph Yarro's CP80 group (for whom Cheryl Preston serves as legal counsel).
First, most of the supporters here are clearly using stock letters, no doubt
provided by the group behind this proposal and have probably not put much
thought into what this actually means. Second, Internet censorship, especially
on the basis of a particular ideology, is destructive and dangerous. Censorship
inevitably suffers from mission creep, if approved there is little stopping
this from being extended to other from other legal content Mormons find
objectionable. Finally, what of non-compliant countries, are they to be blocked
as suggested by CP80? If so that's a lot of legitimate content being filter for
a cause that can be dealt in ways far less damaging to standards and civil
rights. This is not a solution as CP80 suggests.
