Just Say No to the Current ICANN Staff EOI Proposal
Dear ICANN Staff, Distilling the respective ballot box stuffing initiatives of the pro-TLD applicant crowd versus the anti-TLD crowd should leave no doubt in either the minds of ICANN staff or Board that there is a lack of consensus within the broader ICANN community in connection with the utility of the current EOI proposal. Now ICANN has two clear choices: (1) it can turn to the Government Advisory Committee and seek their input as required by the Bylaws and the Affirmation of Commitments consistent with the bottom up consensus process or (2) it can choose to make a "top-down" decision with clear public policy decisions without consulting the GAC. The wrong decision will be one in which there will be consequences not only in connection with current Affirmation of Commitments review, but also other international fora. As someone that has invested over 11 years into the ICANN process, please do not gamble the organization's future away to cover those organizations that bet and lost in connection with a Q1-2010 launch date. Attached please find a more detailed argument in favor of deferring any EOI vote until Nairobi at which time the Government Advisory Committee can be properly consulted. Sincerely, Michael D.
