Board of ICANN:
I am writing in my capacity as Vice President of Consulting and Business
Development for Wasserman Media Group. Wasserman Media Group is a
global sports and entertainment company with leadership positions in
athlete representation, global sales opportunities, action sports as
well as corporate and media/property consulting. Our singular mission
is to exceed the expectations of our clients.
Our clients are best in class:
Athletes: Wasserman's representation group manages top athletes in
baseball, basketball, soccer, golf, broadcast and rugby as well as all
areas of action sports, women's sports and Olympic sports.
Properties: Focusing only on the most preeminent properties,
particularly in naming rights, Wasserman's sales team markets
high-profile sponsorship opportunities to the world's leading corporate
brands.
Corporate Brands: Working with the world's most prominent brands,
Wasserman's consulting team delivers innovative sports, entertainment
and promotional programs that elevate brands and drive business for
Fortune 500 companies.
Sports Businesses and Media: Recognizing the unique business challenges
faced by media outlets and properties, our consulting team specializes
in developing strategies around media rights negotiations and
distribution as well as revenue-generation strategies for sports
enterprises.
Action Sports: The industry's premier marketing and promotions team
specifically focused on action sports and the youth market, we are
experts in all aspects of this industry, from athlete representation to
corporate marketing.
Today Wasserman represents more than 700 athletes in over 20 sports, the
highest level and quality of naming rights inventory in the industry,
and consults with a roster of Blue Chip companies on their sports and
entertainment strategies.
We support the proposed Expressions of Interest in new gTLDs. We agree
with ICANN's stated belief that "receiving expressions of interest will
likely contribute to a better understanding of: 1) the economic demand
for new gTLDs; 2) the number of gTLDs that are likely to be requested;
and 3) inform the program's operational readiness plan."
I believe that the Expressions of Interest will indicate robust economic
demand for new TLDs, a substantial, but manageable, number of proposed
gTLD applications, and will effectively inform ICANN's operational
readiness plan.
We encourage ICANN to move forward with the new gTLD application process
without further delays, and hope to see the Expression of Interest
program implemented as soon as possible.
