For discussion on today's Consumer Metrics call.
Bruce Tonkin offers suggestions on prompting the GAC to reply to the board's
request for advice, and to react to our draft document.

Subject: RE: asking the GAC to comment on Consumer Metrics
Hello Steve,
I discussed this with Heather Dryden yesterday.
Here is what I suggest:
(1) Provide a note from the chair of the GNSO to the chair of the GAC with a
copy of the draft document
(2) Explain the context - i.e. that the GNSO is responding to the Board's
request for advice
(3) Explain where it is in the process - i.e. the GNSO is putting the document
out for final public comment, and aims to approve the document for providing to
the Board in Prague
(4) It would help to get GAC input or individual Government input on the final
draft before the document is provided to the Board.
In terms of the GAC process - it might be helpful to hold off the GNSO
approving the document until the GNSO meeting after Prague. This will allow
the GAC to comment through their communiqué in Prague, and you have time to
consider their advice before approving.
Regards,
Bruce Tonkin

Thanks, Bruce. The draft advice is
here<http://gnso.icann.org/drafts/cctc-draft-advice-letter-22feb12-en.pdf>.
It is still in public comment period, so GNSO won't approve it until June.
Public comments are generally supportive so far.
As I've told Suz and Heather, I'm glad to do a webinar or conference call to
walk thru the Advice with GAC members.

Hello Steve,
I will talk to Heather Dryden - and see what is the best approach.

Bruce — I know your resolution asked for GAC advice, but sometimes they need to
be officially asked.
Do you think the Board can "officially" request GAC for advice on Consumer
metrics?
Best,
Steve
