Jeff: Thanks for doing all this work; these questions should make for a very
interesting discussion on Tuesday.
I would like to propose changing "some" to "many" in question 4. Based on
the research of TF2, and published in its appendix in March of last year, there
are many ICANN-accredited registrars based in countries of the EU and other
regions with comprehensive privacy legislation. These include 12 registrars
in
the UK, 11 in Germany, 10 in Canada, 7 in France, 4 in Spain, 3 in Israel and
2 in Italy (March 04). Of the top 111 registrars, 49 are based in such
countries -- that constitutes "many" to me.
For those who have not seen the very comprehensive spreadsheet on data
protection laws worldwide (based on registrar countries), I will be
recirculating it
this weekend, with some discussion and explanation. I think it might be
useful to Maria and others.
