[gnso-vi-feb10] thoughts on proposals
hi all, i've attached another one of those "Mikey slide decks" -- just a little something i've been thinking about the last few days and wanted to share. nothing really heavy duty. one of my other civic-duty volunteer things (my State's broadband task-force) is just wrapping up and it looks like it's going to go the distance -- our proposals look like they're going to get through the State legislature and signed by the Governor in the next week or so. i was thinking about the similarities between that group and VI. entrenched "well known" positions -- providers, consumers, government, regulators, businesses, etc. this appointed broadband task-force had a couple of each. it was also pretty large although not as big as we are -- 25 people instead of over 60. but similar. i was trying to distill some of the things that helped us be successful when 8 prior efforts had failed. one of the biggest things was that we came up with *lots* of proposals and then hammered out a consensus view that was different than any of the "pure" positions. the result was close enough that everybody supported the recommendations when we were done. feel free to discard it as useless -- but maybe some of these ideas will help. i'd like to spend a few (very few, i promise) minutes on this during our next call. mikey Attachment:
