ICANN/Verisign Agreement

The terms of the proposed agreement between ICANN and Verisign to extend
Verisign's contract as the registry operator for the .com domain do not
appear to be consistent with the interests of registrants, registrars and
resellers.

The revisions would provide Verisign with the ability to increase prices by
seven percent annually in four of the next six years without any cost
justification. This also comes at a time when the market would suggest a
down trend in prices.

The proposed revisions would also modify the renewal clauses of the
agreement so that the contract is essentially non-cancelable and ICANN's
right to re-bid the contract would be taken away. This would essentially
eliminate any possibility for market prices in the future.

Considering the current restrictive regime regarding the introduction of new
gTLDs the proposed revisions are even more objectionable as it would seem
that only the interests of the Verisign Corporation will be served by this
agreement.
