Dear Sir,

 

Surely having seen the failures of (inherently undemocratic) international
institutions in implementing and running complex global programmes, we
should endeavour to save the internet from the fate of the UN Human Rights
Commission and the Oil for Food programme. History shows us that for all its
failings, the United States is the most benign superpower in the history of
the world, and a country uniquely suited to exercise this hegemony with a
relative minimum of machinations. The internet, which is as important for
the symbolic political freedom it represents as for its economic potential,
must be preserved from the illegitimate governments of the world.
