Comment on ICANN Strategic Plan for 2008

1.      What are the major factors that will affect the DNS over the next
three to five years? 
2.      What are the major issues facing ICANN over the next three to five
years? 
3.      What are the most important issues for the ICANN community to
discuss over the next three to five years? 
4.      What should be ICANN's priorities for the next three years? 

Under question 4, I would like to comment the following:

 

For the Arab Region (and I'm sure same applies to other similar regions),
ICANN should have as a priority strategic objective to continue and expand
its efforts to reach out the local communities to advocate and build support
to ICANN's mission. This can be accomplished through:

1.      Continuing  the scholarships to attend ICANN meetings
2.      Disseminating relevant information and news in local language
3.      Partnering with local relevant institutions in relevant awareness
and knowledge transfer programs (grass root level). This could include
Internet societies, university IT clubs, ccTLD Registries, etc.
4.      Empowering regional representatives
5.      Support entrepreneurial initiatives in  underserved regions
