On October 31, 2007, ICANN's policy advisory body (the Generic Names
Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council) will vote on three motions that
will determine the future structure of the domain name and Whois system.

I strongly support motion 2, which proposes that ICANN conduct an objective
and comprehensive study on the legitimate abuses and uses of Whois data â
before making policy changes that may permanently alter the structure of
the domain name and Whois system. I support this motion because as an
owner of numerous trademarks, the current Whois system greatly assists us
in policing misuse of our marks on the internet.

Accordingly, I strongly oppose motions 1 and 3 and do not even understand
why they would be proposed. I suppose there are non-legitimate uses of
Whois, but I cannot accept that those can justifty the actions proposed by
either motions.
