As a daily user of the internet, and frequent victim of unwelcome
pornographic images popping up on my home computer screen, I fully support
the use of .xxx to identify websites publishing pornographic images and/or
video.

The .xxx web address designation should be a mandatory designation, however,
and not merely voluntary.  This will then enable anyone who is offended by
or has no interest in having such sexually explicit content displayed on
their personal computer to easily and effectively block it through the
internet filter settings on the computer.    This in no way infringes on the
First Amendment rights of the site purveyors to distribute the sexually
explicit material, as anyone who wishes to view it will know where to find
it, yet children and others who have no need or desire to view it can be
protected against the sometimes vile and degrading sexual images that abound
on the internet.  

I suppose the porn industry wonders who decides "what is pornographic" in
their argument that this designation would amount to censorship.  But the
entertainment (motion picture/television/music/video game) industry has
devised a rating system for content that could be applied in this media, as
well.  Anyone who has seen an X-rated movie knows what is porn and what
isn't.  Some things obviously fall under this category-sex acts, whether
performed alone, with the use of a portable device, or with another person
or people, or an animal-and cannot be defended as 'art' by any sane person.
ALL of these things should have a mandatory .xxx designation.

Please do not allow a few ill-informed religious fanatics to derail this
plan this time around.  The argument that the .xxx domain registration "adds
legitimacy to the porn industry" is ludicrous.  Do this to protect our
children.
