"firstname@lastname.name" is not a third level registration, but is a
second level email forwarding address corresponding to the third level
domain "firstname.lastname.name".

A person has the choice, subject to the Registrar's offering, of
either 1) registering the third level domain, e.g.
"firstname.lastname.name"; or 2) obtaining the corresponding second
level email forwarding service, e.g. "firstname@lastname.name"; or of
course 3) acquiring both of these services at the same time.

Those registrants that currently have second level email forwarding
and/or a corresponding third level domain will continue to be serviced
by the registry. The introduction of a second level domain product
will therefore not affect current users or products. Rather, the
existing second level email forwarding and third level domain products
will coexist with the second level domain product, giving users more
choice.

The second level email forwarding service will continue to be a
necessary product even after the introduction of a second level domain
offering. Current and future sharing of second level names is and will
continue to be valuable to end users. For those end users or
Registrars wishing to avoid the possible complexities of managing a
second level domain, the second level email forwarding and third level
domain products provide an easily managed service.

Thus, the current products will continue and the introduction of
second level domains will have no impact on current users.
